What cinematic grading actually does

Film colourists push shadows cool and skin tones warm, lift the blacks slightly for a matte roll-off, and shape contrast with a tone curve rather than a contrast slider. Halcyon does the same maths per pixel: split toning on highlights and shadows, per-channel red/blue curves, HSL control over skin and sky, plus clarity, halation and grain for texture.

Cinematic and moody looks

Teal & Orange

Blockbuster split — cool shadows, warm skin.

Anamorphic

Widescreen filmic tones with crushed cool blacks.

Noir City

Rain-slick streets, amber lamps, deep ink shadows.

Arthouse

Muted, contemplative palette with matte blacks.

Moody Dark

Rich shadow depth, restrained colour.

Damp emerald greens and earthy shade.

Ember
